Into Nothingness I Stare

hollyHeadwater

If you prefer, you can listen to my reading of the poem here. Into nothingness I stare, As I dare to seek the spark of inspiration that eludes my conscious mind. All in good time. But for now, creativity has fled my soul and gone I know not where. Into nothingness I stare, As the bare, white screen leers at me with laughing eyes. "Come defeat this emptiness, if to this challenge you can rise." It says, with taunting words that fill the air. Into nothingness I stare, And yet I'm aware of seedling ideas that pop up in a flash, But are gone in a dash. So it's back to "square one" with a sigh of despair. Into nothingness I stare, And glare at the unrelenting emptiness that confronts me. I sip my iced tea. And with determination, place fingertips on keys then lean forward in my chair. Into nothingness I stare, As my lair is disturbed by the glimmer of an idea that has wandered into my head. This blank page is dead. And … [Read more...]

32 Things You Didn’t Know About Logan

Recently, I've seen a lot of these posts circulating the blogosphere and thought it might be fun to write one. So I've assembled 32 of the more interesting (or entertaining) aspects of my life for your amusement. 1. I'm "legally blind" in one eye. Basically that means the vision in one of my eyes is worse than 20/200 and is uncorrectable with any lens or surgery. I can see through it well enough to get around and have peripheral vision on that side, but that's about it. The downside is that affects my depth perception, which is why I sucked at sports. It also causes me to get motion sick at times. Oddly enough though, it actually helps my photography because with my eyesight, I see things the same way the camera lens does. Perhaps one of these days I'll change my name to Scott Summers. 2. Cartoons and Muppets rock. Personally, I think today's cartoons suck. I love watching classic cartoons like the original Pink Panther series, Scooby Doo, and just about any Hanna-Barbera … [Read more...]

One Rocker’s Story

I grew up in a family that didn't have much money. Even though my dad worked like crazy to provide for us, there was just never enough money to go around. In fact, on many occasions, I remember watching my mom try to create a dinner out of random bits of canned and dry goods that were in left over in the pantry because there was no money for groceries. At other times, relatives would drop off care packages full of food to make sure we had food to eat. And I'll never forget seeing my dad scrape together whatever spare change he could find - including antique coins out of his own coin collection - just to buy milk, or eggs, or a box of macaroni and cheese for dinner. Now, let me pause for a minute to say I'm not looking for sympathy here. This is just to set the stage for the rest of my story, and to drive home the fact that even a person from a poor family who's had no outside financial help can build a rockstar career. Now, back to the story....skipping ahead a few years to my … [Read more...]

Letter to a Marine

NOTE FROM LOGAN: Even though I wrote this letter to my brother who's currently serving his country in the Marine Corps, it's also a thank you to all the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces. Today being Veteran's Day here in the United States, I want to extend a personal thank you to our veterans, and those brave men and women who are currently serving our country, for their service, their dedication, and the sacrifices they make to preserve freedom and keep us safe. Please take a moment today to reach out to a veteran, or a member of our Armed Forces and thank them for their service. What they do is never easy, requires sacrifices, and deserves our gratitude and respect. --------------- Dear David, Over the years, I've watched you looking up to me as your older brother, wanting to hang out with me, trying to emulate me, and seeking my attention. And of course, as any big brother does, I found it a bit silly that this annoying little kid was always underfoot wanting to be … [Read more...]
