Into Nothingness I Stare

If you prefer, you can listen to my reading of the poem here. Into nothingness I stare, As I dare to seek the spark of inspiration that eludes my conscious mind. All in good time. But for now, creativity has fled my soul and gone I know not where. Into nothingness I stare, As the bare, white screen leers at me with laughing eyes. "Come defeat this emptiness, if to this challenge you can rise." It says, with taunting words that fill the air. Into nothingness I stare, And yet I'm aware of seedling ideas that pop up in a flash, But are gone in a dash. So it's back to "square one" with a sigh of despair. Into nothingness I stare, And glare at the unrelenting emptiness that confronts me. I sip my iced tea. And with determination, place fingertips on keys then lean forward in my chair. A while ago, I asked you to share your most burning marketing questions with me in the comments of this post, and you all submitted some great questions. I was particularly intrigued with the question submitted by "Lazy Rockstar" which was... For the last few years the message has been, “You don’t need record companies. Artists will market themselves online and . . . (Cue: ‘Age of Aquarius’)” Now you have ten gazillion artist websites and everything you do gets lost in the noise. So, here’s the question, “How do you make ‘good’ noise’? – Lazy My answer? Don't make any. Instead, draw attention to your silence. All of us are being constantly bombarded with advertising "noise" in every media you can imagine. Why I Want to Be Like Kevin Max -or- The Ravings of a True Fan

Ever since I was in high school, I've dreamed of being able to sing like Kevin Max. I used to (well, still do actually) buy every album he was on and spend hours singing along with him trying to match his amazing vocal range and artistic inflections. I even remember trying to make a deal with God one time that went something like "If you'll give me a voice like Kevin's I'll do anything you ask, ANYTHING!" I'm still waiting to hear back on that one. And yes, I have his music playing in the background right now to set the mood as I write this. Actually, here's one of his music videos (although this one is a few years old). You see, Kevin is my favorite singer from my favorite band when I was growing up called dcTalk. In fact, a little piece of me died when they announced they were all going their separate ways ten years ago. A funny thing happened to me on the way to my computer the other day. I got stuck. No, not in the literal sense. More in the "what the hell am I going to write about today?" sense. There I was, mid-stride between my kitchen and my make-shift home office, cup of tea in hand and an ignorant, blank stare on my face. You know those scenes from the first season of the TV show "Chuck" where all hell is breaking loose around him, and Chuck gets this panicked look on his face that says "omg, omg, OMG! What do I do?" Yeah, it was kinda like that, except without the "flash." (OK, everyone on three, 1, 2, 3, "STAY IN THE CAR!" - If you have NO idea what I'm talking about here, go watch "Chuck." You'll laugh 'till your sides hurt. And yes, I am a nerd. Isn't everyone?) Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, stuck.
